Stellenbosch - Nestled in the heart of the Western Cape wine route district, only 28km from Cape Town International Airport, lies the picturesque town of Stellenbosch fondly known as the City of Oaks. Founded in 1679 Stellenbosch is the second oldest town in South Africa. The town has many historic buildings dating back to the early 1700’s. Stellenbosch has a Mediterranean climate receiving most of its rainfall in the winter months between June and August. The region is the coldest during July when the mercury drops to 6.6”C on average during the evenings. The average midday temperatures range from 15.6”C in July to 26.3”C in February. Stellenbosch Wine Route
The original Stellenbosch wine route was founded in 1971. Today the wine route represents more than 200 wine and grape producers within the boundaries of the Stellenbosch wine of origin classification. The route is divided into 5 sub-routes. Daily wine tasting, cellar tours and sales are offered at most cellars and many of these have restaurant and picnic facilities. More information
Butterfly World
Butterfly World, just outside Stellenbosch is one of the more unique attractions of the Western Cape Winelands, consists of a tropical garden in a 1000 m2 green house. This luxuriant paradise makes the free flying exotic butterflies feel right at home. More information
Burgerhuis Museum
Originally built as a private home in 1797 the Burgerhuis is regarded as a typical dwelling of the more well-to-do citizen... and the museum captures perfectly the elegance of the 17th and 18th centuries.
Stellenbosch Golf Course
Stellenbosch Golf Club has already celebrated its centenary, but it was only in 1953 that it grew from a 9-hole course into 18 holes. It has a championship layout that has hosted many prestigious tournaments in the past. Amongst others, the South African Open and South African Masters were hosted at this picturesque 18-hole layout. The 1999 SA Open at Stellenbosch Golf Club proved to be one of the toughest Opens in the last decade. More Information
Drakenstein Lion Park
Drakenstein Lion Park was established in 1998 to provide lions in distress with sanctuary where they could live in safety. The park is situated in the scenic Cape Winelands outside Stellenbosch and comprises of 50 acres of sprawling lion habitat. More Information
