Both our shark and whale trips are unparalleled elsewhere in the world, and we endeavour to bring you the best at the most competitive price. Seasons, weather, experience of the crew, equipment and bait used, and the suitability of the boat however are all major factors in determining your experience at sea, and we make sure no corners are cut. You only need to pay on the day of the trip, but due to many no-shows in the past, we do require credit card details to confirm the reservation for the shark trips only. These you can fax/mail/phone through to us. For the shark cage diving and surface viewing we can offer you several options, all of which operate in the same area and provide essentially the same service, including the following: Fully licensed, safe, modern and comfortable boat, with spacious cabin, toilet and up-stairs viewing deck. Well trained, fully qualified and experienced skipper, dive-master and deck-hand. Transfer to and from the port of departure can be arranged. This service is not included in the price. Breakfast and light lunch, as well as refreshments on board. 4-5 hours at sea, providing ample opportunity to dive, photograph and view the sharks from the surface. All diving gear is included in the price, with everyone over 12 years of age being able to dive in the solid and spacious cages. No qualifications are required to go in the cage, as the cage remains on the surface of the water and right next to the boat. In the unlikely event of no sharks being seen, and subject to availability, a repeat trip is offered. A visit to Dyer Island’s huge seal colony of around 60 000 animals (weather and sea permitting). Other than sharks, visitors stand a good chance of observing seals, pelagic birds, dolphins and whales (in season) in their natural habitat while at sea. DVD of your day at sea can be arranged upon request when booking. 1. At R1200.00 per person on what is one of the most successful and comfortable boats in the business, and for its package certainly great value for money. Departure is at 10h00 from Kleinbaai, which is approximately 45 minutes drive east of Hermanus (see www.xploratours.co.za for map). 2. At R1100 per adult and R600.00 for under 12s on a similar boat as above, departing at 09h00 from Kleinbaai. This boat allows for slightly better surface viewing due to the construction of the boat. This is a really great deal right now! 3. There is an option we offer in False Bay too, which is a longer trip and offers the observation of natural predation on seals as well as breaching (jumping) along with the cage diving/surface viewing. The cost for natural predation and breaching is R1500.00 pp, for cage diving and surface viewing R1300.00 pp, and for the combination of both R2150.00 pp. For boat based whale watching (July - December) there are 3 options, all of which last 2-3 hours and offer the following: Fully licensed, safe, modern and comfortable boat, with cabin, toilet and up-stairs viewing deck. Well trained, fully qualified and experienced skipper, guide and deck-hand. Transfer to and from the port of departure can be arranged. This service is not included in the price. 1. At R680.00 per adult and R340.00 for under 12s, in a very productive whale area with the most picturesque background. New, large boat with whale watching deck, but due to its size and the geographical area, this trip is often adversely affected by the weather. Departure is at 10h30 from Gansbaai, which is approximately 40 minutes drive east of Hermanus (see map on www.xploratours.co.za). 2. At R750.00 per adult and R450.00 for under 12s, and including a visit to the shark cage diving boats, Dyer Island’s huge seal and pelagic bird colonies and of course whales. Great bio-diversity and a lot of water covered, but slightly less time with the whales. This trip is least affected by the weather and overall is the best option on the very best boat. Departure is at 10h00, 12h30 and 14h30 from Kleinbaai, which is approximately 45 minutes drive from Hermanus. 3. At R450.00 per adult and R150.00 for under 14s, in what is probably the least prolific whale area with the least attractive background, and the most commercial operation. However in peak season (September/October), when whales are plentiful this trip is really good value, even if the boat gets a little crowded. Departure is at 09h00, 12h00 and 15h00 from the New Harbour in Hermanus.
