CLIMATE

Plettenberg Bay has year-round sunshine with hot summers (October-March), with temperatures rising to 27°C (80,6°F) into the mid-thirties Celsius (mid-nineties Fahrenheit). Winter, weather is mild and rainy during the rainy season.

Birds of Eden the largest free flight bird aviary in the world. The unique two hectare dome (the World’s largest) spans over a gorge of indigenous forest. The sanctuary has its own mysterious ruin, which incorporates a walk-behind waterfall. Another feature is its amphitheatre, which has the ability to seat over 200 visitors. This unique primate sanctuary is currently the top eco-tourism attraction on the Garden Route and for very sound and sunny reasons. Monkeyland has captured the hearts of visitors in its efforts to rehabilitate and free previously caged primates. Robberg Peninsula, a nature reserve which has recently been declared a national monument and lies approximately 8km south of Plettenberg Bay. Offering spectacular views, a large diversity of bird life and fynbos and seal colony. Robberg offers hiking trails, a choice of three circular routes of increasing difficulty and distance.

The Keurbooms River Nature Reserve is situated about 8km beyond Plettenberg Bay on the N2 national road towards Nature's Valley. The Keurbooms River bisects a small reserve of 740ha. The reserve incorporates an estuary and a river. The headwaters of the Keurbooms River come from the Langkloof, north of the main Tsitsikamma mountain range.

A mere 40km east of Plettenberg Bay you will find Bloukrans river bridge it is the highest and largest bridge in Africa; the third highest in the world and the largest single span concrete arch bridge in the world. South Africa is indeed one of the most incredible destinations in the world for watching marine mammals. Best viewing times are from June to November. Best whale and dolphin viewing sites are Robberg Peninsula in the Robberg Nature Reserve, Plettenberg Park, Beacon Island Rocks, No1 Beachy Head Drive, Van Plettenberg Monument, Lookout Rocks, The Lookout View site and along Keurboomstrand beaches.
