Jeffreys Bay situated in the Eastern Province of South Africa and is the gateway to the most spectacular Garden Route. Jeffreys Bay is referred to by many as J’Bay. This seaside village of Jeffreys Bay was first placed on the map in 1894 when a trading store was opened and in 1926 was declared a village management board.
Jeffreys Bay today is a huge tourist attraction and world renowned for its surfing spots. Every year in July Jeffreys Bay hosts the Billabong Pro, a world sporting event. Jeffreys Bay is acclaimed as being one of the top 10 surfing spots in the world and known as the “Surf Mecca of the World”. Local and International surfers flock to this coastal village of Jeffreys Bay for the ultimate challenge of the world famous Supertubes. Jeffreys Bay boasts with many surfing spots such as Kitchen Windows, Point and Breakers. Jeffreys Bay beaches are safe for bathing and offer endless excitement for water sports. Dolphin Beach was recently awarded a Blue Flag Status.
Another amazing event is the Jeffreys Bay shell festival, held every year for over 20 years in September. Local and international tourists stream in by the 1000’s and the coastal town becomes a hub of excitement. The festival is held in the Central Business District (just metres from the ocean) and stretches over 4 days. Jeffreys Bay beaches boast over 600 types of shells.
The festival showcases these shells mainly in terms of their functional and decorative beauty. Ornaments, cutlery, crockery, pictures, jewellery are some of the ways in which they are used. The festival also offers cultural music, dancing, fine food with over 250 stalls, making it a fun day for the entire family.
Jeffreys Bay is bordered on both sides by nature reserves and rivers, the Kabeljous and Seekoei Estuaries and within Jeffreys Bay the Noorsekloof nature reserve. In close proximity to Jeffreys Bay are St Francis Bay, Aston Bay, Humansdorp, Paradise Beach, and Oyster Bay.
